On a bitingly cold day a rather depleted Toc H / Broughton side took to the pitch against Bury. Playing against the wind, Toc made an excellent start. Strong running, good rucking and sweet handling gave the boys good field position. Fluent play between the backs and forwards led to the first try. 1-0 up. Playing into the wind, a great start. With excellent handling defying the weather the attacks continued. From a scrum against the head Toc challenged in the corner before gaining a penalty. Side to side they went without managing to go over the line but exerting great pressure. A dominant scrum and excellent back play led to more pressure with one more try being scored before half time. 2-0 at half time into the wind. Excellent rugby being played against the elements.
From the start of the second half Toc were playing with the wind. Early pressure on the Bury try line led to a forwards try 3-0. Bury exerted pressure with highly ferocious tackling and committed defence resisting their pressure. A super curving run led to a great try, 4-0 to Toc H. A final try at the end led to the final score, 5-0.
A super effort from the boys and the game should be remembered for the strong running, committed tackling, good passing and powerful forward play in challenging conditions. Well done boys.
