New kids on the block of to a flying start!

The newly combined Toc H-Broughton Park Under 13s kicked off the competitive season hosting the Young Old Bedians at Hough End in the first round of the Lancashire RFU Waterfall Tournament.

Toc-BP got off to a flying start with a score by new recruit Georgie in the third minute. From a strong scrum midway inside the Bedians half scrum half Luuk ran well from the left-hand side to feed centre Jamie who ran strongly to free winger Georgie on the right-hand side to round his man and score. Within two minutes Luuk again broke through the defence this time going all the way to score. Constant pressure on the opposition forced a missed penalty kick to touch which was returned with interest as Georgie finished off a phase of slick passing to score his second. More good teamplay saw Jamie bag a try before Georgie clocked up a first half hat trick at the close of the half.

Bedians returned strongly after the break and scored their first try after 3 minutes. Bolstered with a few new recruits Bedians the game was competitive for most second half, with Ted (playing for Bedians) in particular causing problems for Toc-BP with his bullocking runs up the centre. After a long scoreless period Ollie found some space on the far right hand wing and after busting through a couple of strong tackles scored in the corner. Full back Sam added the seventh try a few minutes later carving through the Bedians defence with an arcing run. That effectively finished the game as far as the score for the Waterfall Tournament went, but the game continued for the final ten minutes with Bedians finishing strongly to score three tries and Toc-BP scoring one final try. Maybe a lack of concentration by Toc-BP in the final minutes, or a lack of fitness, but a job well done! Stronger teams to come but a great start for the new combined team.
