It took just 10 minutes for Didsbury to open the scoring with a break by winger Pete Davies who sprinted 50m before being stopped inches short enabling the off load to supporting Neil Wilkinson who scored in the corner. Keith Quigley converted. Phil Cooper & Ian Howells contested well at the breakdowns showing good aggression enabling several turnovers providing the backs with plenty of attacking opportunities. Didsbury’s domination up front with fast ruck ball being spoiled by the Wallasey backrow enabling Davies to kick a 40m Penalty. Wallasey got back in the game just before half time when a quick tap penalty allowed the winger to score in the corner. The conversion was missed so the score stood at 5-10 at Half time.
The second half started at a frantic pace with tempers fraying and a mass brawl erupting. The referee produced a red card to the Wallasey lock and sin binned Both Didsbury’s flankers. The numbers advantage allowed Wallasey to score a converted try and take the lead 12-10. However this was short lived as quick ruck ball allowed Davies to break away and off load to the supporting Wilkinson who scored his 2nd try of the day, which Quigley duly converted. With a marginal lead Didsbury continued to mount the pressure on Wallasey in the late stages of the game. The pressure from the front row resulted in a penalty on the 22m line which was missed. However the Wallasey drop out was caught by fly half Quigley who produced a brilliant jinking run cutting through several missed tackles only to be brought down inches short, James Tyler fresh from his 10 minute rest, was in support to gather and cross the line unopposed. The conversion was missed and Didsbury progressed to the next round where they will be away vs Widnes on Saturday 18th October.
