A good start was vital and it was Didsbury who gained the early advantage with the home pack in dominant mood in the tight exchanges. The opening try came from a clever kick ahead by Bishop, and second row Phil Cooper was the first to ground the ball. Didsbury maintained the pressure and from a lineout drive skipper Mike Hyde drove over for a score. Oakley added the conversion and gave his side a 12-0 lead.
Dave Hoare had to the leave the game due to injury and he was replaced by the returning Peter Davies. Davies took no time to get on the score sheet making a clean break through the Littleborough midfield to touch down by the posts. Oakley again added the conversion. Didsbury went into the half time break 19 points to the good, but knew they would have to continue the effort to close the game out.
The second half was a rather turgid affair with the referee awarding a number of penalties and the game slowing in pace... Didsbury were able to add two further tries to wrap up the tie. Mike Hyde added a second with a clear run to line, equaling the achievements of his front row colleague McDonough the previous day, and Cooper scored his third of the weekend with a solo effort towards the end.
29-0 was a valiant effort, and not conceding a point in the two games is an outstanding demonstration Didsbury's resolute defence. Next Saturday Didsbury welcome Windermere to Ford Lane 3pm. And they will meet the victors of Ruskin Park versus Southport in the final of the Lancashire Plate, the date of which is still to be announced.
