Didsbury entertained Littleborough in their 1st home game of the season. Didsbury’s Pitch was in perfect condition following extensive drainage works in the off season. This along with the fair weather aided a fast running game. The first 10 minutes was done at a frantic pace with the visitors pressing hard for the didsbury line, although didsbury’s defence remained solid & unbreakable!
Didsbury’s lighter pack dominated at the scrums through superior technique, they also proved fitter around the park. A lineout on the opposition 22m line allowed Prop Steve McDonough to peel off the back, the following ruck allowed centre Dylan williams to bring fullback Tristan Batt into the line who showed good strength in the tackle to off load the ball to winger Dave Hoare who crashed over in the corner. Just before half time a penalty was awarded to Didsbury, allowing Peter Davies to increase the lead to 8-7 at the break.
The second half started with the same intensity as the 1st, both sides applying pressure to test the defences. A sliced touch kick allowed Littleborough to get back in the into the game with a converted try leaving just a 1 point advantage to didsbury. After a prolonged period of attacking on the visitors line fly half Keith Quigley cooly slotted a drop goal to extend the lead further. Didsbury then continued to keep on the attack with several scrums won against the head. Credit should be given to the vistitors defence as it imporved in the later stages to keep didsbury from further scores.
Next Saturday Didsbury’s 1st XV are away in the League against Barrow-in-Furness.
