Didsbury started fairly well, but soon it became apparent that Bury were to have the upper hand in the forward exchanges. Didsbury struggled to maintain consistent possession of the ball, with Bury looking much the keener side. Didsbury took the lead, perhaps against the run of play, through a Pete Davies penalty. Bury soon hit back with a penalty of their own to level the scores at 3-3, and despite Bury dominating the territory there were no more scores in the first half.
After the break Didsbury introduced Phil Cooper from the bench and he made an impact by carrying the ball hard at the resilient Bury defence. Bury were next on the score sheet when they managed to create a gap down the left flank for a try in the corner, the conversion was missed giving Bury the lead 8 – 5. Didsbury could of conceded more points, with Bury forcing Toc H onto the back foot, but stubborn defence kept the home team at bay. It took until the last twenty minutes for Didsbury to look anything like the team that won so convincingly the week before. Clean ball started to be supplied to the backs, and notably Dylan Williams made breaks through the defence. This was to no avail as Didsbury were thwarted every time they neared the tryline. There were no more scores in the game and Bury were pleased to gain the vital league points.
Didsbury will be disappointed with their performance and will look to improve in their next scheduled league game – Saturday 14th February when De La Salle visit Ford Lane.
