Didsbury welcomed De La Salle to Ford Lane last Saturday, with Toc H looking to maintain their perfect home record this season and De La Salle looking to continue their run of six games unbeaten.

The game started in a scrappy manner, and continued that way for most of the afternoon. Despite being Valentines Day there was little love lost between the two sides, and the opening exchanges lead to Didsbury being awarded a number of penalties. Didsbury used the penalties to pin De La Salle deep in their own territory for most of the first half, but resilient defence kept Toc H from crossing the line. The deadlock was broken by a well taken Pete Davies penalty, and he saw two similar chances go just wide of the post making the half time score 3-0.

At the halftime break, Didsbury’s coaches made it clear to the players that they must follow the game plan to the letter.

The second half was similar to the first, with the visitors continually being penalised and Didsbury maintaining the territorial advantage. Keeping with the Valentines theme the referee was handing out cards freely to De La Salle, who saw two yellow and one red card. Despite having large swathes of possession Didsbury couldn’t make it over the try line and after several shots at goal it took veteran Dylan Williams to convert one. This gave Didsbury a far from comfortable 6-0 lead. As the game entered the last ten minutes it looked like Didsbury would grab the only try of the game, when stand in scrum half Gareth Price cleverly box kicked for Davies to chase. Just as it appeared Davies would gather to score, the ball was dislodged and the chance had gone. Didsbury bombarded De La Salle’s line for the remainder of the game, but the visitors showed why they were unbeaten in their last six outings and held firm.

Didsbury will be glad to maintain their home record of eight wins from eight and will be pleased with their disciplined performance. Next Saturday Didsbury host Bolton in the league, 2:30pm kick off.
