Match review
The 1st XV got back to winning ways with an 18-3 victory away to LSH. You could see the disappointment in the lads faces that we didn’t come away with a bonus point but securing the win was the most important thing.
The determination and grit up front rediscovered against Widnes was shown again against a large and aggressive LSH side who played a lot of rugby tight to the rucks and on the gain line, also showing great continuity with successive offloads breaking down the didsbury defence. The defence stood strong however, shown by the 0 tries conceded.
We perhaps didn’t play our best rugby, partly due to the fact that LSH were allowed to slow down the ball at the breakdown at every opportunity. Legally or illegally, that’s a judgement call. We did string together some really good phases executing our attacking shape perfectly an once again, the set piece proved very strong.
Points were on offer a number of times but the lads backed themselves to get the try. Often this was not the case and our possession in the opposition 22 unfortunately did not match up with the points scored.
All in all the squad and coaches were happy with the performance and the attitude shown and this is another step in the right direction. There were a couple of stand out performances. Louis Rose-Fall on the wing, worked hard continuously throughout the game to give the lads every chance of scoring more tries and Zak Morton was his usual energetic self, even when tasked with filling in at tighthead for only the second time in his career. A proper utility player.
Unfortunately the 2nd XV suffered their first loss of the season against Prenton in what was a very tight game, with the away side snatching victory right at the death. This should not detract from the start the 2s have made and the performances they have put in. The lads will work hard to get the next W.
Unfortunately for the 3rd XV, their game was called off as Manchester were unable to field a full 15.
