With a number of Didsbury's squad unavailable, skipper Mike Hyde was forced into a number of changes to previous week's successful side. Among the changes, Veteran Colin Woody came in at prop, and ex-Kendal player Mark Harrison came into the backrow.
Both defences had the best of the opening exchanges with neither side able to make a telling impact in the oppositions half. The stalemate was only broken by a well taken Sean Bishop penalty, Bishop is fast becoming a potent scoring machine with his trusty boot. As with every encounter with St Benedicts, the Cumbrian's never just roll over particularly at home. And true to form the home side struck just before the break, missed tackles allowing an attacker a way to the tryline. The conversion was added and the halftime score was 7-3.
The second half was also dominated by both teams solid defences, but needless errors by Didsbury allowed the home side two tries, robbing Didsbury of a valuable losing bonus point. Didsbury mustered several periods of decent possession, but were not able to convert it into points. The final score of 17-3 perhaps flattered St Benedicts, but Didsbury will turn their attentions to next Saturday’s fixture. Newly promoted Millom visit Ford Lane, 3pm kick off.
