The opening exchanges saw Didsbury on top, but despite good possession Toc H were crucially unable to score in this period. On 20 minutes De La Salle set up a rolling maul, Didsbury failed to stop this until it had entered the 22, and the referee awarded the home side with a penalty for collapsing the maul. The kick sailed through the posts, and the hosts led 3-0. Didsbury responded to this setback and with the ball set up well by the Didsbury pack, the play was spread wide to Joe Bradbury cutting a good line, who fired the ball to winger Sam Wallis to score in the corner. The conversion went wide and the teams went into halftime with Didsbury leading 3-5.
De La Salle were happy to kick any of their possession deep into the Didsbury half, and look to force Didsbury into errors and turn the ball over. Olly Thomas, later named Didsbury's man of the match, had his work cutout - but he time and again gathered the ball and weaved his way through the onrushing defenders. But De La Salle had a period of sustained pressure on the Didsbury tryline, and despite Toc H repelling the attack close to the ruck, the ball went to the backs and an inside pass saw Della score a converted try and retake the lead 10-5. Didsbury battled hard to regain a foothold in the match, with surging runs by Dave Foster and Mark Harrison making ground, and Aidan Murphy battling hard to force turnovers. From one Murphy turnover the ball found Wallis, who beat his man and appeared to score his second try, only for the referee to rule it out for a forward pass. This missed opportunity seemed to be a turning point in the match, and the home side entered a purple patch adding a further 3 tries and with it a four try league bonus point. the final whistle immediately followed the fourth De La Salle try, and Didsbury will look to quickly move on to next weeks visit to Cumbrian side Egremont.
