St Benedict's collected an excellent 28-8 win at Didsbury Toc H in North Lancs Cumbria.
The only blot on a profitable afternoon was the Cumbrians being denied their first bonus point of the season for scoring four tries.
In the last minute stand-off Jamie Doran followed-up his own chip to re-gather and go over under the posts but the referee ruled a knock-on – much to everyone’s amazement.
The match hadn’t started well for Benny’s as they seemed to be still on the bus. Didsbury scored an unconverted try almost from the kick-off and after five minutes added a penalty.
A long afternoon looked in prospect but Benny’s gradually found their land legs and started to dominate the game, so much so that by half-time they led 17-8.
The first try came after 20 minutes when Stephen Nelson made a big hit on a home player on halfway. The ball ran loose and Gavin Maudling picked-up to race away and score by the posts, with Kristian Wood converting.
On 35 minutes Kristian Wood drove down the blind side and put Nelson over for a try. Wood converted and before the break he added a penalty.
Early in the second-half, while down to 14 men, Scott Wood broke from a line-out before diving over for an unconverted try. They tried everything to score that vital fourth try but all they had to show for their efforts were two Wood penalties.
