Didsbury Toc H started their league campaign with an emphatic ten try win against local rivals Old Bedians.
The game started with a lightning quick pace! Within minutes of the kick off, constant forward pressure resulted in a penalty being awarded in the bedians 22, a quick tap from scrum half Gareth Oakley enabled evergreen flanker Gareth Price to crash over in the corner. This score was further increased within minutes following a well worked line out move and slick hanlding allowing winger Pete Davies to sprint into the corner for the first of his five tries! Following an injury, Dylan Williams moved from full back to his preferred position of centre and was soon on the score sheet via some almost acrobatic twisting and an overhead placement of the ball under the posts, Davies added the conversion. Just before half time strong running from Centre Andy Popoola eventually paid of with a crash ball score under the post. Fly half Euan Wilder added the conversion to allow Toc H the strong lead of 24-0 at the break.
From the kick off hard defensive tackling forced bedian errors in the opposition 22 allowing winger Sean Bishop to pounce on loose ball and sprint in untouched under the posts, Davies again adding the conversion. Bedians responded well and produced some well worked moves eventually resulting in a deserved score in the corner. However this pressure was short lived, dominant forward pressure & superior back skills allowed Davies to add four further tries to his tally and a great individual long range effort from Bishop further piled on the scores as the heads of the oppositions dropped. The final 2 conversions added by Club foot Williams particularly entertained the crowd as they were slotted from the touchline. Didsbury can continue in the league next week away at Bolton with confidence although there is still some work to do if they are to reach the form they finished the last season with.
