A league win in Cumbria has been somewhat of a Holy Grail for Didsbury Toc H for many seasons, but they succeeded in style last Saturday. Eleven tries condemned Windermere to their biggest defeat of the season, 12-76, and Didsbury showed glimpses of the talent that so nearly brought them promotion last season.
Didsbury named a strong squad for the fixture, with Sean Bishop replacing James Southall, who performed very well against Littleborough the previous game. The game was played in glorious sunshine at Windermere’s picturesque surroundings, and this was always going to suit the pace of Didsbury’s backline.
Windermere, newly promoted this season, had a clear gameplan to use their heavy pack to make inroads into their visitors territory. Didsbury defended manfully in the forwards and quelled the Cumbrian’s big runners. The tries soon started flowing and came at regular intervals, much to the dismay of the home supporters.
Didsbury’s tries came from Pete Davies (3), Dave Hoare (2), Dave Foster (2), Phil Cooper, Aidan Murphy, Andy Lynn, Andy Popoola. Euan Wilder added 9 conversions & 1 penalty. Davies was nominated the visiting man of the match and Foster was selected by Didsbury’s coaching staff.
This was a very good team performance and Didsbury will hope to build on this with Hutton visiting Ford Lane next Saturday, 3pm kick off.
