Didsbury welcomed Hutton to a windy Ford Lane, knowing they would face a determined outfit. Hutton had a particularly big pack and Didsbury took a while to find their feet in the opening exchanges, and it was the visitors who took the lead. From an attacking Hutton scrum, they attacked blind, finding their winger free to touch down in the corner. Toc H, stunned by the early set back, started to find some momentum and went close to scoring from a rolling maul only to be stopped short of the line. Soon Didsbury found the space their backs craved, and Dave Hoare raced down the wing to score in the corner, Wilder missed the tricky conversion, but the game was level at 5-5. Didsbury, playing against the wind in the first half, added two penalties to before the break to take a narrow 11-5 lead into half time.
Didsbury knew they now had use of the wind, and would hope that their heavier opposition would tire. But to Hutton's credit they defended well despite Didsbury threatening their line early in the second half. Didsbury started to turn the ball over, with the back row of Aidan Murphy, Dave Foster and Andy Lynn making a nuisance of themselves. From one such turnover Didsbury sent hefty centre Dylan Williams through who raced to the line. The lead was soon extended when centre Andy Popoola burrowed over from close range, Wilder added the conversion making the lead 23-5. Hutton managed to gather a loose ball to score a try of their own, but another try by Popoola but the finish on the game. 28-12.
Not Didsbury's greatest ever performance, but they managed a good result against a team that should be higher up the league than their current position displays. Next week Didsbury visit Hutton's neighbours, Tarleton.
