Didsbury travelled with a strong squad to play Hutton at Lancashire police headquarters.

Within minutes of the Didsbury kick off good handling saw winger Dave Hoare in enough space to go into the corner for the first try. From the following kick off 2nd row Shaun Walker received the ball and galloped some 60m only to be caught short by scrambled Hutton defence. A couple of phases later No 8 Dave foster was in support to score in the opposite corner. Didsbury further continued to attack the space with great inter passing between forwards and backs it wasn’t long until the next score – walker mad up for his earlier missed opportunity by a short pick and drive, again in the corner – not very helpful for the conversion! With Didsbury leading 15-0 they seemed to settle back into a lack lustre phase of the game in which the simple moves were over complicated and unforced errors occurred. Credit to Hutton they seized the opportunity to raise their game and were rewarded with a well worked converted try and an opportunist score following a defensive mix up. This woke Didsbury up, and towards the end of the half Didsbury regained their ascendancy on the game. Strong forward running, made space in the centres and allowed new back row Chris Craig over for his first try. Didsbury finished the half leading 20-12.

The second half started in much the same way as the first with a quick try from Hoare, Olly Thomas adding the conversion. The superior fitness of the Didsbury team and the quick pace of the game controlled by debutant scrum half James Peacock allowed Didsbury to dominate the entire 2nd half on what was a heavy pitch. A rehearsed move from the scrum on 20m saw Hoare in for his 3rd try. Replacement Prop Dafydd Williams was unfortunate to not score after an outrageous dummy and 30m dash saw him stopped just short, however fellow replacement Southall bowled over several attempted tacklers to score under the posts. With the game moving into the final stages Hattrick winger Hoare found himself breaking from deep in the Didsbury and racing down the wing, it appeared certain that he was going in for his 4th try however a Hutton replacement refused to give up the chase and brought Hoare down short of the line in what was a remarkable try saving tackle considering the player appeared to be wearing trainers on such a heavy pitch? There was still time left for full back Ian Jenkinson to break away for a try which he converted to finish the game 46-12.
Didsbury played well for the majority of the game but will regret the complacency showed in the first half and should have scored several more if the concentration was present for the full 80mins. That said an 8 try bonus point win on the road and improved form will give the squad confidence going forward. Hutton to their credit remained positive and never gave up in what was a one sided encounter. There were several contenders for the man of the match award but it was most deserved by new scrum half James Peacock who marshalled the game well.

Next week Didsbury host Garstang .
