A fine performance saw the home side score eight tries and run out 51-15 victors. The game also marked a changing of the guard as Tom Makin lead the team as captain for the first league game.
The first half began with Didsbury setting the early pace and a commanding performance for 30/35 minutes resulted in field position and tries coming at a regular intervals. Solid set piece ball created by the pack was time and again used to devastating effect by half back pairing Jamie Peacock and Gaz Oakley. Dave Hoare was in scintillating form and showed his full repertoire of skills finishing off 4 first half tries. Flanker Chris Craig was also on hand to finish a try. With the half coming to an end a missed tackle allowed Birchfield to make a break and they finished a well taken try.
With Hoare's 4 tries in the bag he decided to rest up and left the field at halftime , and he was to be treated to a wonder show by fellow wing Enita Okodiko. Enita's first try saw him use his electric pace to beat 6 players as he raced down the wing and he bettered this with his second as the hapless Birchfield defenders were unable to stop him completing his brace. Credit to Birchfield who scored a further 2 tries, and showed why they were able to gain promotion from NL2 and showed that they will cause sides serious problems this season. Toc h were able to finish the game with aplomb as a lineout drive crashed over for hooker Dave Foster to score.
A very promising performance from Didsbury, but still some areas to work on for the visit of Burnley to Ford Lane next Saturday (3pm).
Scorers: Hoare 4t, Okodiko 2t, Craig 1t, Foster 1t, Peacock 4c & 1p
