Match report - Brooko penalty
Turbo x2 (both converted)
Brooko try (converted)
On an uncharacteristically sunny day in Manchester, Toc H 3s made their way up to Alwinians knowing that only a win would confirm their place in the league for next season. You could sense the belief and anticipation amongst the team right from the warm up, and the feeling that not one Toc H player was walking off the pitch without the W.
Winians jumped out of the blocks straight from kick off to remind us that we were in for a real game. But, after some excellent work in the breakdowns from Death and Harry, we won a penalty in their 22 which Brooko cooly slotted to give us an early advantage.
Soon after we took control of the game, and this time it was the backs who turned up the heat. Following a move straight from the training ground (unlikely) turbo broke the line like a man possessed to score a try under the posts, which brooko slotted.
Straight from the kick off we demonstrated our ruthless streak, with Luke bulldozing his way through the Winians defence before delivering a pop, which would be more excepted of a no.10 than a 2nd row, straight to Turbo who ran in from 40 yards out. Wearing his kicking boots for the big occasion Brooko put his 2nd conversion of the day through the posts.
Before half time Winians reminded us not to celebrate to early and went over in the corner. Game on.
In the 2nd half Winians used their bench well and came at us with full force, but couldn't break our outstanding defence. A defence that was deserving of a try, and James 'twinkle toes' Brooks delivered the goods after making holes in the Winians defence. A try that was in keeping with the importance of the game, which he went on to convert.
Winians rallied late on and scored 2 consecutive tries, but it was too little too late. And when the referee blew the final whistle to confirming our league status, the cheers and celebrations could be heard all the way back in Didsbury.
24-17 on the day. An excellent win against a game team who were determined not to be beaten. A fitting end to another excellent season for the mighty 3s. On to next season.
