Waterloo Vs Didsbury U16s

Buoyed by a good win the previous Sunday our lads made the trip to Liverpool for a Lancs Junior Challenge play-off against Waterloo.
Although Didsbury started reasonably and took the game to Waterloo it soon became apparent that they were up against good opponents.
Waterloo possessed a strong scrum and some hard-running, slick-passing backs.
It was no surprise, therefore, that Waterloo opened the scoring after about 10 minutes with an excellent try by their number 10. The kick was missed so it stood at Waterloo 5 Didsbury 0.
Didsbury enjoyed some reasonable possession with good drives by Kennedy and a couple of strong runs by Walsh.
However, Waterloo began to take control in the scrums and Didsbury started to give way too many penalties.
Coming up to half-time some good moves by the Waterloo backs saw them press towards the Didsbury line before, aided by some poor Didsbury tackling, they scored their second try. Again the kick was unsuccessful. Despite not playing at their best Didsbury were still in the game and a penalty to them in front of the posts gave Grogan a chance to get some points on the board for Didsbury. Waterloo 10 Didsbury 3 at half-time.
This clearly stung Waterloo into action as, despite good defence, especially from Bolton, the Waterloo number 8 crossed for their third try. The conversion took the score to Waterloo 17 Didsbury 3.
No long after the number 8 repeated his scoring exploits and the successful conversion took it to Waterloo 24 Didsbury 3.
Two more tries, one converted, took the final score to Waterloo 36 Didsbury 3.
Although Didsbury were in the game at half-time a lack of sharpness, giving away too many penalties and some rather predictable and static play saw Waterloo run away with the game. Having said that, they did not give up and if the tacking had been shaper the game would have been much closer.
